The Thoroughbred racehorse was originally bred for the purpose of obtaining an athlete that could sustain a high cruising speed either side of 2,400m. Derby's and Cups were always the pinnacle of success and their victors became our breeding stock.
The most important races today are still races such as the English Derby, the Arc de Triomphe, the Kentucky Derby, the Melbourne Cup, the Japan Cup and the Cox Plate etc.
Not 1,200m scampers such as the Golden Slipper, the Magic Millions or the Blue Diamond.
It is indeed very sad that within the modern era, races that do not challenge the athletes total soundness and will to win at 2,000m and beyond, have become the basis of our breeding programs.
And how ironic that whilst the mercenary and impatient breeders limit the true capacity of our breeding stock, the general public are still stimulated foremost by those staying races mentioned above.
At europeanstayers.com we are breeding, developing and purchasing horses that have the necessary ingredients to confront and achieve our aim.
We welcome and encourage like minded purists to join and share our intent.
It is not too late.
